"Made in Niedersachsen" - Grimme GmbH on German television

"The Red Sea lies in Germany". This is the start of a spot about Grimme Landmaschinen GmbH in the programme "Hallo Niedersachsen" on German TV-channel NDR, broadcasted on June 6th. 2012. As this statement is made, the camera pans across a display of huge Grimme potatoharvesters. Impressive!

In the spot the General Manager of Grimme Landmaschinen, Franz Grimme, 4th. generation of the Grimme family business, founded in 1861, informs that present the largest markets are Russia and China.

He did wonder - as the rest of us - why Potatoharvesters were sold to the Chinese. Are potatoes taking up competition with rice?

But there is a simple explanation, Franz Grimme explains. Potato starch is used for the production of glass noodle. And beeing one of the daily food products, the demand for noodles is of course massive.

Moving part of the Grimme production to Asia in order to meet the asian market, however is not a subject, Franz Grimme assures. "The Grimme Know-how is here in Damme, and here it stays".
